The Maltese passport is currently ranked as the 9th strongest passport in the world with visa free travel to 168 countries, including the EU and Canada. Maltese citizens are citizens of the European Union and as such can live, work and study in any country within the European Union, European Economic Area and Switzerland.
You and your family will obtain European Citizenship without having to renounce your current nationality. To qualify for Citizenship, the main applicant will be required to provide proof of having been a resident of Malta for a period of 12 months preceding the issuing of a certificate of naturalization.
The Malta by Investment Programme or the Malta Individual Investor Programme (MIIP) as it is commonly known, by virtue of Legal Notice LN47/2014, allows for the granting of citizenship by a certificate of naturalization to individuals and their families who contribute to the economic and social development of Malta. Subject to a stringent vetting and diligence process, including thorough background checks, the applicants and their dependents are granted citizenship in exchange for such contribution.
The Individual Investor Program of the Republic of Malta (MIIP) requires making a contribution to the National Development and Social Fund of Malta, an investment into real estate and an investment into stocks or bonds. The following contributions and fees shall be required as a minimum to qualify for citizenship under the MIIP.

Travel to Malta for first appointment at Identity Malta’s Office for document signing and to capture required biometric data and issue the e-residency card (around 5 working days). The e-residency card for the purpose of the MIIP is valid for 18 months. IVS will assist to acquire a property which meets your requirements. IVS compiles the complete file for submission of the full application.
IVS submits the formal application to Identity Malta for the Maltese Government to carry out their due diligence. Payment of second Government Application Fees.
If successful, an Approval in Principle letter will be issued by Identity Malta. (This takes approximately 4 months from submission of the formal application). On receipt of Approval in Principle letter, the final Contribution Request Voucher (CRV), requesting payment for the remaining fees will also be issued. The final Government Contribution payment must be made within 20 days.

Visa requirements for Maltese citizens are administrative entry restrictions by the authorities of other states placed on citizens of Malta.
As of 10 July 2018, Maltese citizens had visa-free or visa on arrival access to 182 countries and territories, ranking the Maltese passport 7th in terms of travel freedom according to the Henley Passport Index
